The Malaysia's 13th election is just around the corner. Our PM has been showing signs of the election but have't released an official statement nor date. All political parties has have started with their pre-election campaigning. Yesterday our PM has announced the scrape-off Kajang to Cheras toll fare. It has been a rumor and said in many manifestos that toll fare would be scrapped-off fully for since quite sometime.
Do you agree with toll fare in Malaysia being scrapped-off ?
If its scrapped-off:
(PRO)
1. Cost of living will decrease while income increases.
2. Purchasing power will increase thus increases country's gross income value.
(CON)
1. Legal action will be initiated against the government for breaching the 10% increase a per year agreement.
2. Government tax on toll companies will be less as they will be making lesser income, this will reduce the countries income.
3. Will be opposed by gov/opposition/ PLUS as the decision must be passed by the Parliament.
- State gov has ho say on this issue.
- It is unfair for PLUS as they have a binding contract with the gov till year 2035
[ Terengganu gov have closed one toll (was reopened by BN Gov) they had no problem over the issue.]
Other option ?
Buy shares in companies involved and hold a majority and then formulate an agreement with the federal government. Income from that can be channeled directly to the state government.
# I personally would say that scrapping-off the toll fare is not a good move.
- Country income decrease, less tax on PLUS
- Toll quality drop - Less maintenance alike the federal roads.
- Massive traffic congestion as most would prefer to use the toll as they have less traffic-lights, which may cause more accidents.
