Many of my friends, teacher's and well-wishers use to throw me this question;
Y U CHOOSE LAW ?
Karpal Singh has always been my idol since I was a small boy. He is one of Malaysia's most prominent lawyer. I have met Karpal in person when I was 4/5 years old. I like Karpal's confidence so much. The way he presents his cases are just fascinating.
When I was 5-years-old (year 1997) after my kindergarten, father used to fetch me and he'll bring me to the Mahkamah while waiting for his lunch break. We would go home together for lunch. While waiting for my dad, usually I'll be playing with the toys used in court to demonstrate accident cases. This was the era when the Mahkamah Sungai Petani was located near Jam Besar, Sungai Petani.
On this one day, Karpal was there (Mahkamah Sungai Petani) packing his things up after his case. When he saw me he approached and asked me my name, age and we had some casual talk. Later which he asked me a question :-
Karpal : Who is more important father or mother?
Me : Both are important.
Karpal : You can only choose either one..
Me : My father and mother are like my both eyes. How can I choose one. Both are equally important.
Then Karpal told my father
'this little man here would be a great lawyer, ask him to study LAW '
The conversation we had is still fresh in my memory. Every-time I feel like giving up this is what gets me motivated.
Not forgetting my father. He is also a huge factor of me choosing the legal profession. The satisfaction we get when a client say's thank you from the bottom of their heart and also the pay of course !
